Tannery workers rally in Savar for minimum wage

The workers of Tannery Industry in Savar staged a demonstration on Sunday, March 23, demanding implementation of the minimum wage announced by the government.

Several hundred workers, under the banner of Tannery Workers Union, led by its president Abul Kalam Azad, brought out a procession from the tannery and gathered in front of the union office at about 11:00am.

The leaders said the government on November 21, 2024, declared wages for workers under five grades through the wage board but no initiative has been taken yet in this regard.

They also demanded their salaries and Eid bonus be paid before Eid-ul-Fitr.

The workers also threatened to go for tougher movement after Eid if their demands are not met soon.
