Gazipur RMG workers block highway

A spark of fury ignited in Sreepur of Gazipur Saturday afternoon, as 2,000 garment workers from Axis Knitwears Limited choked the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway.
The protest, erupting at 1:30pm, was not about wages or hours—it was raw payback for a colleague’s blood.
Mosharraf, a factory operator, had been side-lined by illness. Back on the job by 11:00am, he faced supervisor Al-Amin’s wrath. “Too slow,” Al-Amin barked, then fists flew.
Workers say Mosharraf was battered, hauled off to Tania Medical Hospital, and later rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
Word spread like wildfire—by 1:30pm, the highway was theirs, a human wall demanding action against Al-Amin.
Maona Highway Police OC Ayub Ali watched the chaos unfold. “Factory brass are negotiating,” he told Jago News. “We’re pushing to clear the road fast.”
