The Media Reform Commission on Saturday recommended barring companies or individuals from owning multiple media outlets, proposing a “One House, One Media” policy.

Commission chief Kamal Ahmed announced the measure at a press briefing outside the State Guest House Jamuna, after submitting the panel’s report to Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus.

Kamal Ahmed criticised the current setup, noting that single owners run multiple TV channels and newspapers delivering identical content.

“It’s the same news, same opinions—readers get nothing new,” he said, calling it a tactic to distort market transparency.

Owners must choose one outlet to keep, either selling others or restructuring them to stand independently, he added.

The recommendation aims to curb media consolidation and boost diversity.
