A Chaitra drizzle dances over Dhaka

A stubborn heat wave had 13 districts in its grip, the air thick with water vapour, weighing down daily life. Then, on a restless Chaitra afternoon, Dhaka caught a break. Monday, March 17, unfurled a surprise—drizzle and gusts that swept away the stifling haze, painting relief across the capital’s weary streets.
The day started bright, the sun climbing high by morning. But at 2:00pm, the sky shifted—clouds rolled in, brooding and grey. By 2:30pm, a cool whisper of wind carried the first drops, a tease of respite. Then, at 3 pm, the heavens opened wider—rain fell with gusto, whipping through the city in playful bursts.
For Dhaka’s heat-worn souls, it was a balm—discomfort dissolved in the patter. Yet, pedestrians caught mid-stride weren’t all smiles. Umbrellas flipped, shoes splashed, and the sudden downpour turned relief into a soggy scramble. By late afternoon, reports trickled in: Farmgate, Karwan Bazar, Badda, Rampura—all kissed by the same fleeting shower.
The morning’s weather bulletin had dangled a clue. Gusty winds, lightning, rain, maybe even hail could streak across Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, and Sylhet, it mused—one or two spots, here or there. Dhaka claimed its share, the drizzle a soft defiance of the heat wave’s reign.
In Chaitra’s grasp, where warmth often smothers, this rain was more than weather—it was a pause, a sigh, a stolen moment of cool. The clouds may scatter soon, but for now, Dhaka savours the drizzle’s gentle rebellion against a parched afternoon.
