Abrar murder: Verdict on death references, appeals Sunday

The High Court, HC, will deliver its verdict on Sunday, March 16, on the death references and appeals in the sensational murder case of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, BUET, student Abrar Fahad.
The death references, appeals and jail appeals are in Sunday's Cause List of the HC bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Syed Enayet Hossain.
Earlier on February 24, the High Court kept the case waiting for verdict after hearing on the death references and appeals.
Abrar Fahad, 21, a second-year student of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) department and a resident of Sher-e-Bangla Hall of BUET, was mercilessly beaten to death by the leaders and activists of the university unit Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) at the night of October 6, 2019, over a Facebook post where he criticised some deals between Bangladesh and India.
Later, Abrar's father Barkat Ullah lodged a case with Chawkbazar police station against 19 BUET students in this connection.
On December 8, 2021, a Dhaka court sentenced 20 individuals to death and five others to life term imprisonment in the case.
The death-row convicts are Mehedi Hasan Rasel, Anik Sarker alias Apu, Mehedi Hasan Robin alias Shanta, Ifti Mosharaf Sokal, Meftahul Islam Jiyon, Muntasir Al Jemy, Khandaker Tabakkharul Islam Tanveer, Muzahidur Rahman, Moniruzzaman Monir, Hossen Mohammad Toha, Mazedur Rahman Mazed, Shamim Billah, A S M Nazmus Sadat, Mizanur Rahman, Shamsul Arefin Rafat, Morhsed Amortya Islam, S M Mahmud Setu, Muhammad Morhsed-Uz-Zaman Mondol alias Jisan, Ehteshamul Rabbi alias Tanim and Mujtoba Rafid.
