Only MBBS, BDS holders can use ‘Dr’ title: HC

No one, except those with at least an MBBS or BDS degree, can use the title ‘Dr’ before their names, according to a verdict delivered by the High Court on Wednesday. 

A bench comprising Justice Rajik Al Jalil and Justice Sathika Hossain delivered the verdict in response to a rule issued regarding the provisions of the Medical and Dental Council Act.

The court also stated that no punitive action will be taken against individuals who have used the title ‘Dr’ without holding an MBBS or BDS degree up until now. However, starting from March 13, appropriate measures will be taken against anyone found in violation of the law.
