Ex-DAG Rupa barred from leaving country

A Dhaka court on Sunday imposed a travel ban on former Deputy Attorney General, DAG, Jannatul Ferdousi Rupa over graft allegations.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order, allowing a petition by the Anti-Corruption Commission, ACC.

Confirming the matter to BSS, ACC deputy director (public relations) Aktarul Islam said the commission is probing allegations against the former DAG that she amassed huge illegal wealth through corruption including securing bail for accused in different cases in exchange of money.

"The accused may flee the country to evade justice and if she succeeds in doing so, the investigation will be jeopardized. So, a travel ban should be imposed on her," the plea added.
