Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman returned to Bangladesh on Thursday, March 6, after a visit to the Central African Republic, where he was honoured with an honorary presidential title.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced this in a press release.

During the visit, which began on March 3, General Waker-Uz-Zaman reviewed the operations of Bangladeshi contingents and peacekeepers in the UN mission in Central Africa, offering strategic guidance.

He met with UN Special Representative Valentine Rugwabiza and Force Commander Lt Gen Humphrey Nyone, discussing key issues affecting Bangladeshi peacekeepers.

The Army Chief also held bilateral talks with Central Africa Armed Forces Chief General Mamadou Zephirin, focusing on military cooperation, and with CAR President Faustin-Archange Touadéra. Together, they inaugurated the Touadéra Community Clinic, built by the Bangladesh Army to support local civilians as part of the peacekeeping mission.

In recognition of his contributions—particularly in healthcare—President Touadéra conferred the honorary title on General Waker-Uz-Zaman.

The ISPR noted this accolade reflects his impact on CAR’s development. The Army Chief also visited Bangladeshi contingents in the Bangui area.
