Core committee ramps up security, tightens law enforcement

The Core Committee on Law and Order, led by Home Affairs Adviser Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, convened on Monday to finalise sweeping security measures aimed at tightening law enforcement nationwide.

The Chief Adviser’s Senior Assistant Press Secretary Foyez Ahammed at a briefing said the high-level meeting decided to keep capital on high alert with more checkpoints and patrols at strategic locations in Dhaka, along with joint operations conducted by the Bangladesh Army, police, and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).

The Navy will reinforce road security in Dhaka, while the Coast Guard ramps up patrols in coastal and high-risk areas, he said.

The meeting also decided that top law enforcement and administrative officials, including police chiefs, army brigade leaders, and deputy commissioners, will hold frequent press briefings to ensure transparency on security matters.

DMP, BGB, Ansar, and Coast Guard officers will be equipped with motorcycles to navigate narrow alleys and swiftly apprehend criminals, the meeting decided.

Joint forces will raid suspected hideouts, aiming for immediate arrests of crime rings.

Law enforcement will intensify patrols in key districts, including Tongi, Basila, Keraniganj, and Munshiganj.

Besides, 500 Armed Police Battalion (APBn) personnel will be deployed to support Dhaka Metropolitan Police in maintaining law and order.

The meeting also decided compiling an updated list of local terrorists for swift action and arrests.

The meeting also laid stress on fighting disinformation, counter propaganda, fake news, and rumours with verified information.
