85 Bangladeshis among 600 migrants held in Malaysia

Malaysia's immigration police detained 600 migrants, including 85 Bangladeshi nationals, in Selangor state in the early hours of Saturday, February 22.

Other detainees include 57 are from Myanmar, nine from Indonesia, five from India, and one is from Nepal.

They were detained in a drive at a market in Meru of Kelang district around 5:00am (Malaysia local time), the Malaysian Immigration Department said in a statement.

Jafri Embok Taha, deputy director-general of the immigration dept, said the police detained them for not having legal documents, violating visa conditions and overstaying.
