Outsourcing staff block road, demand permanent jobs

Dhaka’s bustling streets ground to a halt on Saturday afternoon as outsourcing employees staged a protest outside the National Press Club, demanding job permanency from the government.

The demonstration, led by the Bangladesh Outsourcing Employee Welfare Council, erupted around 3:00pm, clogging roads in Paltan, the Bangladesh Secretariat, and surrounding areas with a severe traffic jam.

The protesters, armed with a single demand, called for the regularisation of jobs for employees working on outsourcing projects under government and autonomous institutions.

“We want permanency—nothing less,” their chants echoed, as they barricaded the road, halting movement in one of the capital’s busiest hubs.
