Hail, drizzle in Dhaka on Phagun afternoon

The capital experienced an unexpected twist in its lingering winter ambiance as rain and hail swept through various parts on Saturday afternoon.
Drizzling rain began at 1:45pm, catching residents off guard, and by the time this report was filed, hail had been reported in areas such as Jatrabari, Badda, Link Road, and Gulshan.
The day started with promise—sunlight bathed Dhaka’s skyline since morning, offering a brief reprieve from the seasonal chill. But as the hours passed, the sky turned moody, cloaking itself in clouds. By afternoon, the drizzle arrived, soon escalating into a spectacle of rain and scattered hail.
Meteorologist Jebunnesa, speaking to Jago News confirmed the phenomenon: “It’s drizzling across various parts of the capital right now. Beyond Dhaka, rain is also falling in Narsingdi, Keraniganj, and Mawa. This won’t last long, though—expect it to taper off soon. However, there’s a chance of lightning, so caution is advised.”
Earlier in the day, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department had hinted at such weather shifts.
Their morning forecast predicted rain or thunderstorms in isolated spots across four divisions—Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, and Khulna.
They also noted that light to moderate fog might blanket parts of the country from late night into Sunday morning, adding to the wintry feel.
For Dhaka’s residents, the sudden rain and hail transformed an otherwise ordinary Phagun afternoon—an echo of spring’s approach amid winter’s stubborn grip. As droplets glistened on streets and rooftops, the city paused to witness nature’s fleeting drama.
