5 killed as truck runs over rickshaw in Bogura

Five people were killed when a cattle-laden truck ran over a battery-operated rickshaw on the Bogura-Naogaon highway in Dupchanchia Upazila, Bogura, around 8:30 pm on Friday night.

The deceased have been identified as Mojahar (60), Safikul Islam (45), and Mezbah (32) from Dupchanchia, Shahidul Islam (60) from Baro Akira village in Adamdighi, and the auto-rickshaw driver Moyen Sardar (55) from Dipuil village.

According to police and local sources, a truck carrying cattle was traveling towards Bogura from Naogaon. As it passed the Dupchanchia Mail Bus Stand area, it ran over the rickshaw. Four people died on the spot, while one more succumbed to injuries after being rushed to Bogura's Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital.

Dupchanchia Police Station's Officer-in-Charge (OC), Faridul Islam, stated that the victims included the auto-rickshaw driver and three workers from a local tile factory, who were returning home after work. The bodies of the four victims who died at the scene have been kept at Dupchanchia Police Station, while the fifth body is at the hospital.
