3 killed in extremist groups’ shootout in Jhenaidah

Three people, including an extremist leader, were killed in a shootout between two extremist groups in Shailkupa, Jhenaidah, on Friday night. The incident took place at the Crematorium ground in Ramchandrapur village in the upazila around 9:30 pm.
The victims were identified as Hanif, an extremist leader and son of Rahazuddin from Ramnagar village in Harinakundu upazila, and Liton, 37, son of Umbad Ali from Sreerampur village of the same upazila.
Local residents reported that the shootout suddenly erupted around 9:30 pm. After the shooting stopped, the bodies of the victims, who had been shot and injured, were found by a nearby irrigation canal. They alerted the police, who later arrived at the scene and identified Hanif’s body as a former top leader of the East Bengal Communist Party. Hanif had been involved in multiple murder, extortion, and robbery cases.
Shailkupa Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Masum Khan stated that upon receiving news of the shootout, the police recovered three bullet-riddled bodies from the scene. Two motorcycles were also recovered during the investigation. OC Masum Khan confirmed that two victims have been identified, while the third remains unknown. The cause of the incident and the identities of those responsible are still unclear. The bodies have been sent to the morgue for further examination.
