Deadly Khilgaon fire escalates, 10 units battle blaze

A fierce fire erupted at a sawmill in Khilgaon on Friday evening, rapidly spreading to a nearby car garage and triggering explosions as vehicle cylinders detonated.
Ten Fire Service units are now on the scene, with more en route, struggling to contain the inferno that broke out around 7:30 PM on February 21.
Fire Service Duty Officer Rashed Bin Khalid confirmed the escalation. “We got the call at 7:30pm about a blaze in a two-story sawmill near Taltala Market,” he said. “Two units responded initially, but as the fire spread to the adjacent garage, we’ve deployed 10 units. Additional teams are rushing to assist.”
The cause and full extent of the damage remain unclear, though no casualties have been reported so far.
The situation worsened as flames engulfed the garage, igniting cars and setting off loud blasts—likely from exploding cylinders or equipment.
Khilgaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge Daud Hossain described the chaos: “The fire jumped from the sawmill to the garage next door. We heard several loud explosions, probably from goods or car parts inside.”
As thick smoke billows over Khilgaon, firefighters battle to douse the flames, racing against a fire that threatens to engulf more of the densely packed area.
