RAB to be formed afresh, if required: Home Adviser

Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said that the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) will be reconstituted if necessary.
He made these remarks after a meeting of the Advisory Council Committee on law and order at the Secretariat on Tuesday, February 18.
During the session, which also discussed RAB, Jahangir mentioned, “We have sent a proposal in this regard, that means given an idea of a name, and it will be discussed in the next meeting.”
When asked if RAB's name would change, he indicated that this decision would be made in the upcoming meeting. Regarding whether RAB would be formed anew, the home adviser confirmed, “Yes, it will be formed afresh if it is needed.”
These statements follow a United Nations report from February 12, which recommended the dissolution of RAB and restricting the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) to military intelligence activities.
