Ex-health secretary Jahangir Alam arrested

Jahangir Alam Bulbul, who served as the Secretary of the Health Services Division of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare during the mass uprising in July-August, has been arrested.

A team from the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police (DB) arrested him in the early hours of Tuesday from the capital.

The head of the DB, Rezaul Karim Mallik, confirmed the arrest in the morning. He stated that Jahangir Alam faces multiple charges and will be shown as arrested in one case before being produced in court.

It has been reported that after the fall of the Awami League government, Jahangir Alam was transferred from the Ministry of Health Services to the Planning Commission on August 20. He was assigned responsibility for the Agriculture, Water Resources, and Rural Development division.

Later, due to serious allegations, the government sent Jahangir Alam into mandatory retirement.

Jahangir Alam assumed the role of Secretary of the Health Services Division on October 9, 2023. Prior to that, he served as Secretary of the Ministry of Social Welfare until October 8, 2023.
