Fake freedom fighters to be identified, prosecuted: Adviser

Fake freedom fighters will be identified and brought under the law, said Farooq-e-Azam, Adviser to the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, on Monday.
He made this statement to the media after the third session of the second day of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) conference, held on Monday (February 17) at Osmani Memorial Hall in the capital.
The adviser mentioned that DCs have reported the presence of fake freedom fighters in various areas, and that genuine freedom fighters in the districts have raised concerns about this issue. The DCs have expressed a desire to quickly identify these individuals and bring them under the law, seeking specific instructions on how to proceed.
He further explained that the Jatiyo Muktijoddha Council (Jamuka) has been restructured, and amendments are being made to the existing law to redefine the criteria for identifying freedom fighters. Once these amendments are finalised, the Freedom Fighters' council will also be restructured. Afterward, a verification process will be conducted in each district to identify fake freedom fighters, and those identified will be brought under the law.
