Book fair stall closed for selling sanitary napkin

The Bangla Academy has shut down a stall at the Amar Ekushey Book Fair for selling sanitary napkin named Stay Safe.
The decision comes after some people objected to exhibition or sale of sanitary napkin publicly, calling it ‘secret product.
After the closure, the products were removed from the fair on Sunday, February 16.
In a letter on Friday, February 14, the Bangla Academy asked the PRAN-RFL Group, parent company of Advanced Personal Care Ltd which manufactures Stay Safe, to close the stall or replace other products there.
In this regard, PRAN-RFL Group Director (Marketing) Kamruzzaman Kamal said the Bangla Academy said in the letter that people from some groups alleged the product is not showable publicly and it is tantamount to hurting religious sentiments.
“After receiving the letter today (February 16), we decided to stop selling the product at book fair showing respect to our religious sentiments,” he added.
The member secretary of Amar Ekushey Book Fair organising committee, Sarkar Amin, said there will be only book stall at the book fair except food zone as per the fair policies and that is why, the sanitary napkin stall was closed.
