Police use batons against protesting teacher candidates

Police have used batons, water cannons, and sound grenades to disperse assistant teacher candidates for government primary schools who were protesting against a High Court verdict that canceled their appointments. The NTRCA-registered candidates, who were also demonstrating for their recruitment, were dispersed following the police action.
The protesters blocked the Shahbagh intersection, Dhaka, at 1:20 pm, and police dispersed them around 1:50 pm.
The primary school teacher candidates demanded the immediate appointment of 6,531 candidates recommended in the third phase of the recruitment process. Additionally, NTRCA-registered teacher candidates (1st-12th batches) also called for their appointments.
The NTRCA-registered candidates claimed that due to discrimination against applicants in the teacher recruitment process (1st-5th public notifications) and systemic corruption, they have been deprived of appointments. In response to their demands, they are calling for the immediate implementation of the commitment made by APS Sabbir Ahmed on behalf of the Chief Adviser on October 17 and December 23, which includes separating the database of eligible registered teachers from the 1st to 12th batches, considering entry-level age criteria. Furthermore, they have demanded the resolution of all bureaucratic obstacles and the fulfillment of recruitment promises.
