17 kg gold seized from 2 passengers at Osmani Airport

A significant haul of gold was discovered in the possession of two passengers arriving from Dubai at Sylhet Osmani International Airport.
The National Security Intelligence Service (NSI) conducted the operation and seized the gold around 9:00am on Thursday (February 6).
The confiscated gold consists of 120 flat bars and four cylinder-shaped bars, with a total weight exceeding 17 kilograms.
According to an airport source, NSI officials flagged two passengers travelling on Bangladesh Biman flight BG 252 from Dubai as suspects and subjected them to a thorough search at approximately 8:30am. During the inspection, authorities found a charger light and a small charger fan inside their luggage. Upon further examination, it was revealed that these items contained hidden compartments, from which the gold was retrieved. Both passengers were subsequently arrested.
Efforts to seek comments from Sylhet Osmani International Airport Director Hafiz Ahmed via phone went unanswered.
