Ex-social welfare minister Nuruzzaman arrested

The police arrested former Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed in Rangpur city on Thursday night, January 30.
He was apprehended from a relative’s house in Post Office colony of Central Road around 9:15pm, Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Majid Ali confirmed.
He is an accused in a case filed over the murder of one Mahmudul Hasan Munna during the Anti-Discrimination Students Movement in Rangpur. Besides, there are multiple cases against him in Lalmonirhat.
Nuruzzaman Ahmed was state minister, and minister in two terms of fallen Awami League government.
In the 2024 general election, he was elected MP from Lalmonirhat-2 (Kaliganj-Aditmari) constituency with Awami League’s nomination.
