Titumir College students block road seeking univ status

The students of Titumir College put blockade on the road in front of their college on Thursday afternoon, January 30, demanding university status of their college.
Witnesses said some 250 students of the college took to the street at noon, leaving vehicular movement from Mohakhali to Gulshan-1 suspended.
Commuters were facing difficulties to go to their respective destinations due to the blockade.
Russel Sarwar, officer-in-charge of Banani police station, said additional police were deployed to avert further trouble.
Professor Shipra Rani Mondal, principal of the college, met the protesting students and called on them to withdraw their blockade programme.
She also urged them to place their demands peacefully inside the campus, saying blocking road causes people's sufferings.
But the students did not respond to her call, and are continuing their programme while filing of the report at about 12:45pm.
