Ex-Public Administration minister on 2-day remand

A Meherpur court has granted a two-day remand for former Public Administration Minister Farhad Hossain in connection with the attack on the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. He has been ordered to be interrogated at the jail gate.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Begum Sharmin Nahar of Meherpur issued the order on Thursday.
Earlier, Farhad Hossain and his brother Sarfaraz Hossain Mridul were brought to the court from Meherpur District Jail. Public Prosecutor Abu Saleh Mohammad Nasim had filed a petition requesting a seven-day remand for both of them. However, the court granted a two-day remand and permitted interrogation at the Meherpur jail gate.
Before this, Farhad Hossain was brought to Meherpur District Jail from Dhaka Central Jail in a prison van on the night of January 29. The news of his arrival in Meherpur attracted many curious locals, some of whom gathered in front of the district jail. However, additional police forces were deployed throughout the district and around the jail area to prevent any untoward incidents.
On August 5, Rashedul Islam from Darbeshpur village in Meherpur Sadar Upazila filed a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act following the attack on the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in Meherpur. Farhad Hossain was the prime accused in the case and was arrested and transported from Dhaka Central Jail to Meherpur by district police.
