Due to a strike by Bangladesh Railway's running staff, train services have been halted nationwide. In response, the Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) has launched bus services on key rail routes to provide an alternative mode of transportation for passengers. Passengers can use their purchased train tickets to travel on these BRTC buses.

Rezaul Karim Siddiqui, the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Railways, confirmed the development on Tuesday morning (January 28). He stated that passengers traveling from Dhaka Railway Station and Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport Railway Station to Chittagong, Rajshahi, Sylhet, Khulna, Cumilla, Bogura, and Mymensingh will be able to travel on BRTC buses with their purchased train tickets. Additionally, passengers from these destinations can also return to Dhaka using the bus services.

The BRTC bus service will continue until further notice, Siddiqui added.

The railway running staff have been protesting for better benefits, including the inclusion of running allowances with their basic salaries for pension and other benefits. On January 22, the Railway Running Staff and Workers Union held a press conference in Chittagong, issuing an ultimatum that their demands must be met by January 27. They announced that train services would be suspended starting January 28 if their demands were not addressed.
