Angry passengers vandalise Rajshahi station after train halt

Angry passengers vandalised Rajshahi Railway Station on Tuesday morning after train services were halted due to a strike by running staff.
The running staff across the country, including in Rajshahi, stopped train services in protest against the decision to cut mileage allowances from pensions. As a result, no trains departed from the station since the early hours of the day. All types of trains, including local, intercity, and mail trains, were affected.
Abul Kalam Azad, the manager of Rajshahi Railway Station, stated that some passengers became upset and damaged several chairs in the morning, although the vandalism was not widespread. Army personnel have been deployed for security, and the situation is now under control.
However, hundreds of passengers were left stranded as trains were not operating. Both regular commuters and office-goers faced severe difficulties due to the sudden disruption in services. Several chairs were seen broken at the station entrance, with hundreds of passengers waiting for trains.
According to information from Rajshahi Railway Station, 18 pairs of trains depart daily from the station, but no trains had left by morning today.
In addition, to prevent any potential disturbances and ensure passenger safety, both police and military personnel have been stationed at the station since the morning.
