Ex-state minister Enamur arrested in Dhaka

Detectives from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested Dr Enamur Rahman, former state minister for disaster management and relief, from the capital’s Bashundhara area on Sunday night.
Rezaul Karim Mallick, Additional Commissioner of the DMP’s Detective Branch (DB), confirmed the arrest, stating that Enamur Rahman was arrested after a raid in the Bashundhara area, Dhaka. Multiple cases have been filed against him regarding the July-August uprising incidents. He will be presented in court on Monday, and a remand petition will be filed.
Enamur Rahman was elected unopposed from Dhaka-19 in the 10th National Parliament election in 2014 and won again in the same constituency in the 2018 General Election. On January 7, 2019, he took the oath as Minister of State for Disaster Management and Relief in Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's fourth cabinet.
In the 2024 General Election, he contested under the Awami League's "Boat" symbol but was defeated by independent candidate Saiful Islam.
On September 23 of last year, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) decided to investigate allegations against Enamur Rahman regarding the abuse of power and accumulation of assets beyond his known sources of income.
