July proclamation to be finalised Thursday, announcement later
An all-party meeting will finalise the Proclamation of the July Uprising next Thursday, said interim government’s adviser without portfolio Mahfuj Alam on Tuesday.
A document outlining the proclamation will be drafted based on the consensus reached in the meeting. Details on the timing and manner of the declaration’s release will be clarified at that time.
Mahfuj shared this information during a press briefing organised by the Chief Adviser's Press Wing at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Tuesday, January 14.
He explained that the declaration was initially intended for release on December 31 under student leadership. However, the government decided to engage in further discussions before proceeding with the announcement.
Over the past 12 to 13 days, Mahfuj said, efforts have been made by the Advisory Council to prepare a draft declaration aligned with the students' vision.
Talks have been held with various political parties, stakeholders, and interest groups, including Jamaat, women’s organisations, teachers, and student groups. While not all parties have been consulted, one of the largest political groups, Jamaat, is among those involved.
According to Mahfuj, there is broad agreement on the need for the declaration, though consensus has not yet been reached on the timing and exact content. He confirmed that the declaration will be finalised by Thursday.
The press briefing also featured Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam, Senior Assistant Press Secretary Ahammad Foyez, and Assistant Press Secretary Suchismita Tithi.
Mahfuj Alam concluded by expressing hope that the final declaration would capture the spirit and expectations of Bangladesh's mass uprising, led by the country's students and people. The proclamation, he said, will be circulated and announced in line with the consensus of all involved parties.
