BRTA to be held responsible for accidents due to unfit vehicles: Adviser

Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, adviser to the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, has warned that the official concerned of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority, BRTA, will have to take the responsibility for any accident due to unfit vehicles.
He told the journalists after the inspection of BRTA head office in Dhaka’s Banani and a view-exchange there on road safety on Saturday, January 11.
Fouzul Kabir said many road accidents occur because of unsuitable vehicles. BRTA must explain how these vehicles ply on the road.
“In the future, if any accident happens for unfit vehicle, the official concerned of BRTA will be brought to justice.”
The adviser stated that he instructed the BRTA to phone the owners or send them message so that they re-examine their unfit vehicles before the specific period, otherwise, route permit will be cancelled.
About the training for the public transport drivers, he said they will be trained up in government and private institutions and alongside, it will examined whether they are drug addicted.
Mentioning that there are around 4.50 lakh driving licenses stuck at BRTA, the adviser said the authorities concerned have been directed to distribute these in a short period. “Hope it will be possible to provide these within next March.”
