Makeshift special court at Alia Madrasa torched
A fire was set in a room of the makeshift special court established at Alia Madrasa grounds in the capital's Bakshi Bazar early on Thursday. While a vehicle was stationed outside the madrasa building, fire services were unable to carry out operations due to the main gates being locked, according to Chawkbazar police.
Students had been demanding the permanent relocation of the temporary court. After protesting on the road in front of the madrasa for over 10 hours, the students agreed to vacate the area around 11 AM, following a promise to meet with the judge.
Assistant Police Commissioner Mahfuzar Rahman of Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Chawkbazar division said the protestors set the condition to clear the road only after being allowed to discuss their demands with the judge. This condition was accepted, and the students voluntarily left the area.
After the students left, the judge entered the temporary court. The situation is now under control, with additional police deployed around the court to ensure security.
