4 killed in fire as 2 buses crash into ambulance in Savar

Four people were killed in a tragic incident on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway in Savar when two buses crashed into an ambulance, causing a fire early Thursday. The fire quickly spread from the ambulance to the two buses.

The incident occurred around 2:00 am in front of the Fulbaria Police Town on the Dhaka-bound lane of the highway.

According to the Highway Police, the two buses crashed into the rear of the ambulance, igniting a fire in the ambulance. The flames then spread to both buses. Fire Service teams responded immediately and managed to control the fire after about an hour. By that time, all three vehicles had been destroyed by the flames.

The Fire Service recovered four bodies, all of which were severely burnt. Their identities have not yet been confirmed. Preliminary reports suggest that the fire may have been triggered by an explosion of the gas cylinder in the ambulance.

Meherul Islam, the In-Charge of Savar Fire Service, confirmed that four bodies had been found and stated that further details would be provided later.

Savar Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC), Soukatul Alam, said that the bodies were so badly burnt that identification was not possible. The bodies have been sent to Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for identification and autopsy.

As a result of the incident, traffic on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway was temporarily halted, but normal traffic flow has since been restored.
