Tension has arisen between the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) over the construction of a barbed wire fence along the Binodpur Union border in Shibganj, Chapainawabganj.

The dispute began on Monday (January 6) near the 1S, 2S, and 3S points of Border Pillar 177 in Binodpur Union's border area. It continued through Tuesday, as the BSF resumed road construction work after an unsuccessful resolution attempt during a meeting held on Monday afternoon.

Local resident Anarul Islam stated, "Despite discussions, no solution was reached. When the BSF restarted their road construction on Tuesday, the BGB took a cautious stance to prevent escalation."

According to Md. Kamal Uddin, a local union parishad member, the BSF began erecting barbed wire fences along the zero line around 10:00am on Monday. However, the BGB intervened, halting the construction. The situation has remained tense since.

Lt Col Golam Kibria, commander of the 59th BGB battalion, confirmed that members of the Shubdapur BSF camp from India's Malda district started road construction near the border.

"The BGB stopped their activity, and the situation is now calm. The BSF has ceased construction work," he said.

Malda Deputy Commissioner Nitin Singhania also confirmed the incident to Jago News, saying, "The situation is under control for now. The BSF is monitoring the border area, and the district police are on alert. Additional police forces have been deployed to ensure stability."

As of now, both sides are maintaining a cautious approach to avoid further escalation, and the situation remains peaceful.
