5 killed as train crashes into microbus in Faridpur

Five people were killed and four others injured when a Dhaka-bound train crashed into a microbus at Gerda in Faridpur around 11:30 am on Tuesday. The injured were taken to Faridpur Medical College Hospital.

Sources said that a Hiace microbus, carrying 10 to 11 passengers, was crossing a level crossing when it was struck by the Madhumati Express, which was traveling from Khulna to Dhaka via Faridpur. Following the collision, the microbus fell into a nearby ditch, and its cylinder exploded, killing three people at the scene. The injured were later transported to the hospital, where two more individuals died.

Locals reported that the microbus was traveling from Gerda towards Munshibazar when the accident occurred.

Md Nazrul Islam, Station Officer of the Faridpur Fire Service, confirmed the deaths of three people. 

Atiar Rahman, the Ward Master at the hospital, stated that two people were brought dead to the hospital, while the others, including the microbus driver, are receiving treatment.

Takdir Hossain, the Station Master at Faridpur Railway Station, confirmed that there is no authorised level crossing at Gerda. He has heard about the accident and is investigating the matter. Hossain also noted that the Madhumati Express left Faridpur Station for Dhaka at 12:05 pm.
