CEC promises no deliberate mistakes in nat’l election
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has promised that the Election Commission will not make deliberate mistakes while performing its duties.
The CEC made this statement while speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural session of the "Training of Trainers" program for data collectors and supervisors, held on the occasion of the Voter List Update Programme-2025 at the Election Training Institute on Sunday.
He said, "There is no opportunity to work with conventional methods. The Election Commission is committed to ensuring a fair, transparent, and impartial election to restore the voting rights of 180 million people. Those involved in the election process must work with professionalism. The Commission will not make deliberate mistakes while performing its duties."
Election Commissioner Abdur Rahmanel Masud highlighted the need for transparency and accountability in order to restore public confidence in the electoral process. He stressed that an accurate voter list is a prerequisite for a free and fair election and instructed that utmost care and diligence be exercised during the voter list update process.
Election Commissioner Tahmina Ahmed stated that the tools for conducting a fair election would be the law and conscience. She assured that if any officer of the Election Commission engages in malicious activities, the Commission would not take responsibility for their actions.
Election Commissioner Anwarul Islam Sarkar emphasised that the Commission would do everything necessary to restore the integrity of the election system. He stated that any irregularities, negligence, or lack of transparency in the voter list update process would not be tolerated.
Election Commissioner Brigadier General (Retd.) Abul Fazal Mohammad Sanuallah added that no one should participate in the voter list updating process with the motive of financial gain. He stressed the importance of equal treatment for deceased voters, fake voters, and new voters. He also pointed out that the Commission would address people’s lack of interest in voting, noting that public distrust has decreased. "People now want to vote, and the Commission will ensure that the election process is not compromised," he assured.
The event was chaired by Akhtar Ahmed, Senior Secretary of the Election Commission.
