The Bangladesh Meteorological Department, BMD, has forecasted that there will likely be dense fog throughout January, resulting in severe cold across the month.

The day and night temperatures may be higher than normal in January and the difference of day and night temperatures will increase the feeling of cold, according to the department.

There will be a lot of thick fog this year and as a result, cold will intensify, meteorologist Bajlur Rashid told Jago News, adding that 10 degree Celsius temperature will be felt like 8 degree. 

The severe cold will continue till the first week of February and later, it will gradually decline, he also said.

According to BMD’s monthly forecast, one or two moderate to severe coldwaves will likely sweep over the West, North and Northeast regions of the country this month and two or three mild to moderate coldwave may occur over other parts of the country.

There may be dense fog till afternoon in some places in January that may disrupt communication on air, road, and waterways.
