Missing Lakshmipur AL man found dead in Mymensingh
The body of a member of the Awami League's Raipur Upazila unit in Lakshmipur and a member of the Keroa Union Parishad has been found in Tarakanda Upazila, Mymensingh. According to his family, unidentified individuals abducted him from Dhaka's Mirpur-10 on Tuesday night (December 31).
Police recovered the body on Wednesday afternoon (January 1) from a roadside crop field near the Pithasuta intersection in the upazila. The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tarakanda Police Station confirmed the identity of the deceased as Arifur Rahman.
Arifur’s brother-in-law, Selim Hossain, along with other family members, reported that Arif was actively involved in Awami League politics and ran businesses dealing in construction materials and furniture. He had been living in Dhaka with his family since August 5. On Tuesday evening, Arif left home with his family. Later that night, he dropped his wife off at Mirpur-1 and went to Mirpur-10, where he was last seen sitting in a familiar shop.
Later that night, his wife received a text message from Arif’s phone requesting Tk 10,000 via mobile banking (Bkash). When she tried to call him, there was no response, and eventually, his phone was found switched off. When the family went to Mirpur Police Station on Wednesday morning to report him missing, they were informed of an unidentified body being recovered in Mymensingh. Upon seeing photographs, the family identified the body as Arifur.
Arifur’s brother, Farhad Hossain, alleged that his brother was abducted and murdered in a premeditated act. He said, “There were bloodstained wounds on his face. We demand justice.”
Tarakanda Police Station OC Md. Tipu Sultan stated, “Locals informed the police after discovering the body in a crop field beside the road in the morning. The body was recovered and sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for autopsy.”
He added, “There were marks of abrasions on the skin above the deceased's left eye and nose. It appears that the murder took place elsewhere, and the body was dumped here early in the morning.”
