India, China, and US to top diplomatic agenda: Touhid

The interim government will prioritise strengthening relations with India, China, and the United States in 2025, as these three nations are pivotal to Bangladesh's interests, according to Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday (January 1) about the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' goals for the new year, Touhid Hossain expressed optimism about fostering stronger ties both regionally and globally.

"This year, we aim to ensure a smooth environment in our internal and external relations," said Hossain. "We want good relations with our neighbors, the United States, and China because our national interests are deeply connected to maintaining strong ties in all these areas."

He emphasised that these nations also share mutual interests in maintaining good relations with Bangladesh. "I am optimistic that by the end of this year, we will see significant improvement in our relationships with all our neighbors and global partners."

Highlighting key priorities, the advisor stressed resolving the Rohingya crisis, stabilising the economic and diplomatic sectors, and bolstering Bangladesh’s international standing.

"Our primary goal is to ensure the safe and dignified repatriation of the Rohingyas with their rights and security intact," he noted. "This remains a considerable challenge due to shifting ground realities, but it is essential for a sustainable resolution."

The advisor also mentioned upcoming discussions on the Padma-Ganga water-sharing agreement at the technical level as part of the government’s agenda.

With a proactive approach to diplomacy, the interim government aims to advance Bangladesh's strategic, economic, and humanitarian interests on the global stage.
