‘March for Unity’ at Shaheed Minar today replacing July Declaration

The Anti-Discrimination Student Movement has announced a program titled ‘March for Unity,’ scheduled for Tuesday at 3 pm, replacing the previously planned ‘Proclamation of July Revolution.’

The announcement was made by the movement’s Member Secretary, Arif Sohel, at their central office in Bangla Motor, Dhaka, at 1:40 am on Tuesday.

Arif Sohel said, “Through the spontaneous participation of students and the public in the July-August uprising, the aspiration to abolish the fascist system and establish a new political arrangement emerged, leading to the birth of a new Bangladesh in a historic context. The July Declaration was essential as a document of public aspirations and a recognition of the sacrifices of countless martyrs and injured fighters. Drafting this declaration became a historical responsibility of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, which led the July uprising. Despite various challenges, the movement took on this responsibility on behalf of the students and people of Bangladesh.”

He added, “Our initiative has received spontaneous and positive responses from students and the general public across Bangladesh. In response to this demand, steps have been taken at the state level to draft the July Declaration based on national consensus. This timely initiative has been widely appreciated.”

“In continuation of this,” he concluded, “the ‘March for Unity’ program has been announced at the Central Shaheed Minar on Tuesday, December 31, at 3 PM. We appeal to the people of Bangladesh to maintain the enthusiasm and momentum they have displayed and participate spontaneously in tomorrow’s program.”

The press conference was also attended by the movement’s convener, Hasnat Abdullah, and coordinator, Sarjis Alam.
