Female dentist abducted from Rajshahi home, father abandoned on highway

A young female dentist was abducted from her home in Rajshahi city, along with her father, who was later abandoned on the roadside in the Salanga police station area of Sirajganj.

The father is now in police custody, while the mother, who sustained severe injuries during the abduction, is undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.

The dentist, a recent graduate in Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from a private medical college in Rajshahi, hails from a family residing in Rajshahi city. Her father is a retired government official.

The mother, currently admitted to Ward 8 of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, shared her ordeal.

She explained that her husband had gone to the mosque for Fajr prayers early in the morning. As a safety measure, she locked the outer gate and kept the key with her. Shortly after, she heard the lock being opened and assumed her husband had returned early.

When she approached, she saw that her husband was being held hostage by a group of kidnappers who had seized the key. The attackers brutally struck her head against a wall, hit her with the lock, and attempted to strangle her.

In a desperate escape, she fell to the road, but by then, the abductors had already taken her husband and daughter away in a microbus.

Later, she managed to speak to her husband, who was left by the abductors on the highway near Salanga.

He revealed that six kidnappers, including the driver, were involved. After being forced into the microbus, he was injected with a sedative. Upon regaining consciousness, he found himself abandoned on the roadside, where locals rescued him and alerted the police.

Salanga Police Station Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Shafiul Islam confirmed that the father was rescued by locals and brought to the police station around noon. He said that the abductors took both the father and daughter in the same microbus but only released the father. Relatives have since arrived from Rajshahi and took him back.

Chandrima Police Station in Rajshahi Officer-in-Charge Md Matiar Rahman said that they had received reports of the kidnapping but were yet to locate the daughter or make any arrests. He said they were also informed of an individual who led the abduction.

The mother remains distraught over the fate of her daughter, repeatedly pleading, "I want my daughter back." Police investigations are ongoing to locate the abducted dentist and apprehend the culprits.
