Ban on journos’ entry to Secretariat temporary: Home Ministry

Following the devastating fire at the Secretariat last Wednesday, a temporary ban has been imposed on journalists' entry. However, the Ministry of Home Affairs has clarified that the ban is temporary.

A statement issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Saturday explained that the decision to restrict journalists' access is temporary due to the ongoing investigation into the fire at the Secretariat. The ministry further noted that a meeting will be held with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and a positive decision will be made swiftly regarding the matter.

Earlier, in a press release signed by Khuda Baksh Chowdhury, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser for Home Affairs, it was announced that all types of temporary Secretariat access passes for private individuals have been revoked, except for permanent access passes (Digital Access Control System) issued to Secretariat officials and employees, as well as temporary passes issued to government officials and employees.

Access to the Secretariat using accreditation cards issued to journalists has been suspended until further notice, the statement added.
