Domestic use of natural gas to be stopped: Muhith

Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith on Saturday said domestic use of natural gas to be stopped to ensure uninterrupted gas supply to the industry for development activities.

‘At first, we thought that the country has huge natural gas, but the reserve of gas is very low and it is inadequate for domestic use,’ he said while speaking as the chief guest at a seminar marking the National Energy Security Day-2016 at Petrobangla office in the city.

The minister urged people to use Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) in residences as an alternative fuel and said the first priority activities in future would be to halt the supply of gas to residences.

He also stressed expediting import activities of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) as the government is committed to ensure uninterrupted gas supply to the industries after 2018.

Prime Minister’s Energy, Power and Mineral Resources Adviser Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury and State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid attended the seminar as special guests with Energy and Mineral Resources Division Secretary Nazimuddin Chowdhury in the chair.
