Enforced disappearance: Travel ban on 20 army, police officials

The Ministry of Home Affairs has ordered the suspension of passports for 20 senior army and police officials due to their alleged involvement in enforced disappearances. A travel ban has also been imposed on them.

A letter signed by Md Kamruzzaman, Deputy Secretary of the Security Services Division, Exit-1, of the Ministry of Home Affairs, has been issued with these instructions.

The Director General of the Department of Immigration and Passports and the Chief of the Special Branch (SB) of the police have been directed to take the necessary actions.

The officials facing these actions include former RAB Director General Mokhlesur Rahman, former Inspectors General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun and Dr. Benazir Ahmed, former RAB Additional DG Ziaul Ahsan, Colonel Tofayel Mostafa Sarwar, former RAB-7 Commander Lt. Colonel Mifath Uddin Ahmed, former RAB Intelligence Director Lt. Colonel Md. Mahbub Alam, former RAB-4 Commander Additional DIG Khondkar Lutful Kabir, former RAB-10 Commander Shahabuddin Khan, former RAB-11 Commander Lt. Colonel Md. Kamrul Hasan, and former RAB-1 CO Lt. Colonel Sarwar-bin-Kasem.

Additionally, former SB Chief Monirul Islam, former Detective Branch (DB) Chief Mohammad Harun-or-Rashid, former Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) Chief Md. Asaduzzaman, former Additional Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Sheikh Mohammad Maruf Hasan, former DB Deputy Commissioner Moshiur Rahman, and former CTTC ADC Touhidul Islam have been named.

Among the officials from the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI), the list includes former Directors Brigadier General (Retd.) Abu Taher Mohammad Ibrahim, Major General (Retd.) Mohammad Touhid-ul-Islam, and Brigadier General Md. Mahbubur Rahman Siddique.

The letter states that, following a request from the Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances, allegations against these 20 officials have surfaced during the second phase of investigations. To prevent them from leaving the country, instructions have been issued to suspend their passports and impose travel bans.
