4 BGB platoons deployed in Tongi following Tabligh factional clash

Four platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed in Tongi following a clash between factions of Tabligh Jamaat, which resulted in two fatalities.

Md Shariful Islam, Public Relations Officer at BGB Headquarters, confirmed the deployment on Wednesday morning.

The incident took place at the Bishwa Ijtema ground in Tongi, Gazipur, where followers of Maulana Saad and Maulana Zubair clashed, leading to two deaths and several injuries.

The clash occurred early this morning at the foreign pilgrims’ camp within the Ijtema ground. Iskandar Habibur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tongi West Police Station, confirmed the details.

The deceased have been identified as Md. Aminul Islam Bachchu, a follower of Zubair from Pakundia Upazila in Kishoreganj, and Taijul Islam, a follower of Saad from Bogura district.

OC Iskandar Habibur Rahman stated, "We have received reports of two fatalities in the clash between the two factions at the Ijtema ground. Police have been deployed, and the situation is now under control."
