Chief Adviser heads to Cairo for D-8 summit
Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of the interim government, has departed for Egypt to attend the D-8 Summit. His flight left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 1:20 am on Wednesday (December 18), heading for Cairo.
The information was confirmed by Abul Kalam Azad Majumdar, Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser.
The D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation 2024 summit is scheduled to take place in Cairo, the capital of Egypt. Dr Yunus was invited by Egypt to represent Bangladesh at the summit.
The D-8 organization was established to promote economic cooperation among eight member countries: Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkey. It officially began its journey on June 15, 1997, with the Istanbul Declaration.
The organization's objectives include enhancing the global economic standing of member states, diversifying trade relations, creating new opportunities, increasing participation in international decision-making processes, and improving the quality of life for their citizens.
