Dr Asif Nazrul, Law Adviser to the interim government, said on Saturday that the sacrifices of the martyrs of 1971 were rendered futile due to the failures of a political party. He called upon the youth to seize the second opportunity to build the nation through sacrifice and prevent a repetition of past failures.

He made this statement on Saturday morning (December 14) after paying his respects at the Martyred Intellectuals Memorial in Mirpur.

Asif Nazrul stated, "The freedom fighters threw themselves into the struggle out of love for the country. This spirit continued into the July uprising, where we saw students risking their lives and sacrificing themselves for democracy, human rights, and the establishment of an egalitarian society. Standing at this memorial today, I am reminded of their sacrifices."

He added, "After the immense sacrifices of many martyrs in 1971, we failed to build the Bangladesh of our dreams. This failure was due to a particular mindset and the shortcomings of a political party. We must ensure that such failures are not repeated. The sacrifices of the youth have given us a second chance to build the nation. It is imperative that we do not squander this opportunity. On Martyred Intellectuals Day, this is our aspiration."
