Professor Dr Asif Nazrul, the law and parliamentary affairs adviser to the interim government, said on Monday that during the previous government's tenure, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and the judiciary were turned into slaves of Sheikh Hasina.

He made these comments on Monday morning (December 9) at an event held in Kakrail, Dhaka, to observe International Anti-Corruption Day 2024. The event was chaired by ACC Secretary Khorsheda Yasmin.

Highlighting instances of corruption in both the public and private sectors over the past 16 years, Asif Nazrul stated that while the ACC and the higher courts existed, justice was not served. However, he pointed out that Khaleda Zia was tried.

The advisor also said that corruption has become established in society due to lack of justice.

In his speech as a special guest, Dr Iftekharuzzaman, Executive Director of Transparency International Bangladesh and head of the ACC Reform Commission, emphasised the need for comprehensive reforms within the ACC.

Md Akhtar Hossain, Director General (Prevention) of the ACC, stated that creating an honest generation would make it easier to build a corruption-free society. He stressed that efforts against corruption should not be limited to corrective actions but should also focus on instilling an anti-corruption mindset in everyone.
