A Bangladeshi man was shot dead by the Indian Border Security Force, BSF, along Panchagarh border early Friday, December 6.

The deceased was identified as Anwar Hossain, 40, a resident of Debnagar area in Tetulia upazila.

The incident took place in the middle point of Mominpara in Panchagarh’s Sadar under the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) 56 Battalion in Nilphamari and India’s Shingpara.

BGB and local sources said a few individuals, including Anwar, entered Indian territory to bring cows. On their way back, the BSF personnel chased them and at that time, a few rounds of gunshots were heard.

Hearing sound of gunshots and to prevent smugglers, the BGB members also fired blank shots. Later, the BSF members took Anwar’s body.

Lt Col Sheikh Mohammad Badruddoza, commandant of the BGB-56 Battalion in Nilphamari, said they will strongly protest against the murder on border.
