Saleh DRU new president, Mainul gen secy

Abu Saleh Akon and Mainul Hasan Sohel have been elected president and general secretary of the Dhaka Reporters Unity, DRU, respectively.

Saleh of Daily Naya Diganta bagged 501 votes, while his nearest rival Mursalin Nomani of BSS got 496, and Mainul of Daily Inqilab secured 548 votes, while his nearest contender Shahnaz Sharmin got 364.

Besides, Gazi Anwar became vice-president, Nadia Sharmin joint secretary, Abdul Hye Tuhin organising secretary, Rafiq Rafi office secretary, Rozina Rosy women affairs secretary, Mijan Chowdhury publicity and publication secretary, and Md Shariful Islam information technology and training secretary.

Md Mojibur Rahman was made sports secretary, Rafiq Mridha welfare secretary, Shakhawat Hossain Sumon finance secretary, Md Emdadul Haque Khan cultural affairs secretary, and Mohammad Salim Ullah (Mesbah) entertainment secretary of the Dhaka-based reporters' organisation.

Md Junaid Hossain (Junaid Shishir), Aktaruzzaman, Md Borhan Uddin, Aminul Haque Bhuiyan, Md Faruque Alam, Sumon Chowdhury, and Salim Ullah (SU Selim) were elected executive members.

Chief Election Commission chairman MA Aziz on Saturday evening announced the results of the voting that took place at DRU’s Sagar-Runi auditorium in Dhaka’s Segunbagicha today.
