Workers block Dhaka-Tangail highway over unpaid wages

A group of workers from Mahmud Jeans Limited in the Chandra area of Kaliakair, Gazipur, have blocked the Dhaka-Tangail Highway to protest unpaid wages, halting traffic on both sides of the highway and causing significant inconvenience to the public.

The workers began their protest around 9:00 am on Thursday, refusing to join their shifts and demanding payment of their overdue wages. The agitated workers then blocked both sides of the road near the Chandra flyover, resulting in severe traffic congestion. Police and military personnel were dispatched to the scene in an attempt to resolve the situation through negotiations with the workers.

According to the workers, their wages for the previous month were supposed to be paid by the 7th of this month, but the management has yet to make the payment. Despite repeated requests, their demands have been ignored by the authorities.

When contacted, the factory management could not be reached for comment.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Naojoar Highway Police, Rais Uddin, stated that traffic on the highway has been suspended due to the roadblock by the factory workers.
