Demra-Jatrabari violence: Police sue 8,000 students

The police have filed a case against 8,000 students from various colleges, including Dr Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College, accusing them of vandalism and theft of magazines loaded with bullets.

The case was lodged on Sunday by Sub-Inspector AKM Hasan Mahmudul Kabir at Sutrapur Police Station in Dhaka. The information was confirmed by the general registration branch of the police station on Monday (November 25).

According to the case statement, on November 24, an estimated 7,000–8,000 students from various institutions formed an unlawful assembly and engaged in violent activities armed with deadly weapons. They are accused of damaging government property, including a police armoured personnel carrier (APC) and a police motorcycle, and stealing magazines loaded with bullets from official firearms.

The statement also alleges that the students attacked on-duty police officers, issued threats to their lives, and incited terror. The estimated financial damage caused by the vandalism was reported to be Tk 2,70,000.

The incident has been categorised as an offense under Section 15(3) of the Special Powers Act of 1974 and relevant provisions of the Penal Code.

Further investigation is underway to identify those involved and take necessary legal actions.
